Lifesavers with Pride are excited to announce the first three winners of our Proud Beaches Scholarships. We had an impressive number of submissions and the committee found it difficult to select the winners with so many deserving bids. Our three winners come from Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales and will all be undertaking their Bronze Medallion in the new year. We look forward to following your progression and seeing your lifesaving adventure begin. Plus we are keen to see the LGBTIQ representation within surf life saving to be acknowledged and increase.
We are now taking submissions for the second round of scholarships for the 2019-2020 season. These will be promoted both through the Lifesaving community and the LGBTIQ community. Applications close 31 January and will be announced in February.
We had a great day yesterday representing Surf Life Saving SA for the first time ever at the Feast Festival Picnic Day on the Torrens River, joining SA Police, UniSA and the Adelaide Crows amongst others, showing we welcome our rainbow members.
Was fun not just representing @surflifesa but also to the many attendees who dropped by to say they were/are members of @brighton.slsc @glenelgslsc @henleyslsc @seacliffslsc @south_port_surf and @somertonslsc
We're all excited about the start of summer coming up, so we're getting together on Sunday 01 December with our friends from The Beresford for our Start of Summer celebrations.
If you are keen to promote lifesaving as a progressive, welcoming and inclusive community, then join us from 4pm for a few drinks and catch up on all our activities over the summer. We may even let out some secrets about the upcoming parade plans. See you out the back in the garden under the awning and our banner.
In the meantime, enjoy the summer and see you down at the beach.
Great to meet with David and the SLSWA crew today to talk up Surf Life Saving as a welcoming, progressive and inclusive organisation for our LGBTIQ friends. Looking forward to our next trip to Perth in March for more good times.
Great day catching up with Julien and the team at SLSA chatting about all things inclusive. Plenty of ideas in the pipeline for our LGBTIQ members and recruits. Keep an eye out for news on surf life saving's position on inclusion being announced soon.
It was great to head up to Belrose this week to chat with the team at SLSNSW. So many folk there, in so many roles all keen on promoting lifesaving within the LGBTIQ community. Definitely a lot of common ground for us to work together on.
Lifesavers with Pride were keen to join with the Central Coast Pride Network in their inaugural Central Coast Twist Festival at Umina Beach. A big thank you to everyone who joined us at their Fair Day on Sunday. The Saturday Life's a Beach events had to be cancelled due to the weather but Sunday turned out great with plenty of people showing their support for both the LGBTIQ community as well as to Surf Life Saving.
Also big thanks to Mick and the team at Ocean Beach SLSC for their support.
Lifesavers With Pride are always keen to promote the welcoming lifesaving community to our LGBTIQ friends.
On International Lesbian Day, 08 October, let's make our SLS clubs stronger by embracing all corners of our community.
