Mardi Gras Parade

What is the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade?

A world-renowned parade along Sydney’s famous Oxford street. It is a display of the LGBTQIA+ community, showcasing the beauty and strength in pride and self-expression as we continue to fight for equality.

Each year, around 13 000 marchers and over 200 floats share their support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Why do Lifesavers with Pride go in the parade?

The Lifesavers with Pride float is an absolute crowd favourite. We love attending the parade for several reasons:

  • to publicly showcase surf lifesaving as welcoming, progressive and inclusive

  • to encourage people to join our fabulous organisation

  • to remind people of the importance of our volunteer surf lifesavers

  • to have fun!

We have won numerous awards along the way, including:

  • 2007 Sexiest Float Award

  • 2009 Best Choreography Award

  • 2011 Best Choreography Award

  • 2012 Showstopper Gold Award

  • 2020 Principle Float - performing with Dua Lipa!
