Bringing Pride to the Beach

We are an organisation dedicated to promoting inclusion, diversity, and visibility of LGBTQ+ members within the Australian surf lifesaving community. We work to help surf clubs foster an environment which is welcoming and supportive for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Through education, advocacy, and participation in major events such as the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Lifesavers with Pride fosters a culture of acceptance and celebrates the contributions of LGBTQIA+ lifesavers.

LWP supports SLSA through membership and participation, as part of the ‘mission’ pillar of SLSA

Meet the Committee

  • Chair

Jake has been involved with surf lifesaving since he was 6 years old. He has been Chair since 2023/2024.

He has led practical strategies to recruit and retain a more diverse lifesaving membership. Jake has expanded the presence of our association across Australia, particularly in regional areas, and worked alongside our allies. He is proud to have recruited our most diverse committee and membership for 2025/2026 - with more women, trans and gender diverse people joining lifesaving.

  • Tahlia is a member of City of Perth SLSC and has been involved in surf lifesaving for five years. She is passionate about growing representation and inclusivity within the movement, and hopes to create a welcoming environment that encourages more people to enjoy the benefits of fitness, community, and giving back.

  • Max is a member of Maroubra SLSC and a 2024 recipient of the Lifesavers with Pride Rainbow Beaches Scholarship. He is focused on expanding member outreach and amplifying queer voices within the lifesaving community.

  • Kate joined Bondi SLSC in 2022 and is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in surf lifesaving. As an ally, she’s excited to support the mission of building a fun and welcoming community for all.

  • Co-chair

Ingrid is the Secretary of St Kilda Life Saving Club and a Committee Member for Life Saving Victoria’s Membership, Leadership & Development – Diversity & Inclusion. A graduate of LSV’s Ready2Lead program, she plays a key role in shaping St Kilda LSC as a hub for inclusive community connection. Inspired by her lived experience as an LGBTQIA+ ally, Ingrid uses her strategic skills to help broaden Lifesavers with Pride’s impact across Victoria.

  • Lucy is a member of Sawtell SLSC who is passionate about ensuring our beaches are safe, fun, and welcoming for everyone.

As a proud patrol member and First Aid Officer at North Wollongong Surf Life Saving Club, I love keeping our beaches safe and being part of an amazing team. I’m excited to use my skills to help Lifesavers with Pride continue driving real change in surf lifesaving.

Outside of the surf, you’ll find me on the jiujitsu mats as part of the global LGBTQIA+ grappling group, Triangles Everywhere—where I get to combine discipline, challenge, and community all in one.

  • Secretary

Reilly is a new member of Tamarama SLSC, having completed his Bronze Medallion in late 2023. He is passionate about creating inclusive spaces and is excited to help grow the Lifesavers with Pride community. He also enjoys a good boogie.

  • Karen is a member of South Maroubra SLSC and has been involved in surf lifesaving for five years, including two with Lifesavers with Pride. A trainee with SR30 offshore rescue, she is working towards crew and driver certifications. Karen is passionate about water safety, inclusion, and community education, and works professionally as a lifeguard. She’s also a proud mum and a keen ocean swimmer.
