SLSA Pride Rescue Board
The SLSA Pride Rescue Board is a symbol of inclusion, diversity, and lifesaving excellence. Just like traditional Surf Rescue Boards, it plays a crucial role in surf lifesaving, accounting for over 35% of all rescues—saving an average of 3,300 lives each year.
What makes the Pride Board unique is its striking chevron design, which incorporates the Rainbow Flag, a global symbol of LGBTQIA+ pride, alongside the Progress Flag, created by Daniel Quasar in 2018. The progress element of the chevron includes black and brown stripes to represent people of colour, a tribute to those who have lost their lives, and pink, white, and blue stripes from the transgender flag.
More than just a piece of equipment, the SLSA Pride Rescue Board is a powerful statement of Surf Life Saving Australia’s commitment to ensuring everyone feels safe, welcome, and valued on our beaches.

From Vision to Reality: From Ballambi Surf Club to SLSA!
Great things happen when passionate individuals and organisations join forces!
In 2021, a group of patrolling members from Bellambi Surf Club had a bold idea—imprinting the Progress Pride Flag on a surf rescue board to showcase inclusion and attract more diverse members to their club. As a small club, this was a progressive and actionable move to engage the broader local community and to say to everyone, you are welcome, and you will be seen as you are on our beach. Hats off to Matt Theris, Vice President of Bellambi for the idea!
LWP worked closely with Bellambi and SLSA to get the idea to reality. Infront Surf Craft did the physical work of making the boards, ensuring they met the highest standards of surf lifesaving performance!
Thanks to this incredible collaboration, the SLSA Pride Rescue Boards officially hit Australian beaches in early 2023—proving that when individuals, clubs, and organisations work together, they can make waves of change.
